What is Chantix?

Chantix, a prescription drug manufactured by Pfizer, is used to stop cigarette smoking. It works by binding to and blocking nicotine receptors in the brain, thus preventing them from being activated. In turn, when an individual smokes a cigarette, he or she will not receive the same amount of satisfaction, making it less likely that he or she will smoke another one. In addition, Chantix releases a small amount of the pleasure neurotransmitter, dopamine, which diminishes withdrawal symptoms. Although Chantix has proven to be an effective way to quit smoking, it has many dangerous psychological side effects including:

• Suicidal thoughts
• Changes in Behavior
• Aggression
• Irritability
• Anger
• Depression
• Abnormal or vivid dreams
• Insomnia
• Seizures
