Yaz (drospirenone and ehinyl estradiol), a contraceptive pill that prevents pregnancy, was approved by the FDA in 2001. By containing two hormones, estrogen and progesterone, Yaz not only stops ovulation from occurring, but also alters the cervical and uterine lining thus making it more difficult for the sperm to reach and fertilize the egg. In addition, Yaz is used for the treatment of moderate acne as well as symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
