H-1B Temporary Work Permit is a temporary work permit for an immigrant who is planning on working in the U.S. in a specialty field. A person may hold this visa for a maximum of six years and but can stay for increments of three years at a time. Only 85,000 H-1B work permits are granted each year and is limited to those who have received a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent experience in one of the following specialty fields:

Agricultural Science, Architecture, Astronomy, Biology, Business/Management, Chemistry, Computer Science, Department of Defense, Education, Engineering, Fashion Modeling, Geology, Law, Mathematics, Medicine/Health Fields, Physics, Psychology, Surveying, Theology, Veterinary Science, and Writing.

Requirements: The U.S. employer must sponsor the immigrant and obtain a labor condition application (LCA) from the U.S. Department of Labor prior to filing the H-1B application with the USCIS.
