As of 1949, Article 520 of the penal code, provides “Any unnatural sexual intercourse shall be punished with a term of imprisonment of up to three years” [R1.2].


On 25 November 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) reportedly stoned two men to death in Syria after claiming they were gay, the jihadist organization’s first known executions for alleged homosexuality [R1.1].
