In December 2002, Attorney General Jeff Lantz introduced amendments to the Family Law Act in the legislature Tuesday that expanded the rights of common law partners in such areas as child custody, property division and spousal support [R1.1].

In December 2002, Attorney General Jeff Lantz introduced amendments to the Family Law Act in the legislature Tuesday that expanded the rights of common law partners in such areas as child custody, property division and spousal support [R1.1].

The definition of a common law relationship was changed from a “man and a woman co-habitating outside of marriage” to “two persons co-habitating outside of marriage.”
