In 1992, consensual sex between same-sex couples was decriminalised [R1.4]
In 1992, Section 10 of the Sexual Offences Act prohibits such activity by a man who is a crew member on a Manx-registered merchant ship – quaere female crew members are not so constrained [R1.3].

Section 9 Unnatural Offences –
(1) A person (“A”) who commits buggery with another person (“B”) –
(a) where A has attained the age of 16 and B is under the age of 16, or
(b) elsewhere than in private,
shall be guilty of an offence;
(2) A person who is guilty of an offence under subsection (1) shall be liable on conviction on information –
(a) if with a person under the age of 16 and so charged in the information, to imprisonment for life;
(b) otherwise, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 7 years
Section 10. Provision supplemental to s 9
(3) In its application to an act committed on a Manx merchant ship by a man who is a member of the crew of that ship with a man who is a member of the crew of that ship or of another Manx merchant ship, section 9(1) and (4) shall have effect with the omission of paragraphs (a) and (b) [L1.2]
On 10 December 2018, it was reported that the government has asked people for their views on a wide-range of issues in a consultation, including whether gay men convicted of same-sex offences before laws against homosexuality were scrapped could be pardoned [R1.1].
