2. Courts & Tribunals

On 26 January 2017, it was reported that Ivory Coast authorities had refused to explain why openly gay men Yann, 31, and Abdoul, 19 men were sentenced to three months in prison in November 2016, as the country does not criminalise same-sex acts. Abdoul’s uncle filed a complaint for “public indecency” with the gendarmerie in the south-western seaside town of Sassandra after walking in on the pair having sex. The men were relased from prison 25 January 2017 [R2.2].

On 03 November 2016, in reportedly the first case of its kind, a court in Sassandra found two men, aged 31 and 19, identified as P.L and L.A, accused of engaging in same-sex sexual acts guilty of public indecency and imposed three-month prison sentences [R2.1],
